The lighthouse is located on the southeast corner of Block Island. Although the island is diminutive in size at only 9.7 square miles, the Nature Conservancy has listed it as one of the "Last Great Places." The island is a popular location for recreation including sailing, biking, and swimming. About 40 percent of the island is intentionally undeveloped; the remaining space could make good use of tiny house plans and other size-conscious developments.
